Michal won't stop making films for women... Is he doomed to fail?Filmy dla Kobiet poster

A strong woman makes me feel strong. A strong woman takes the time and the effort to consider my needs as if they were her own. She listens to me. It's time I started listening to her. I'm proud to listen - even if I fail to meet someone else's needs I can be proud that I took the time to judge them important.Pointer

By getting myself to start listening to women, I want to give others a chance to do the same thing.

I've decided to export fine art handcrafted by women in Poland to America. High quality handcrafted art produced by high quality women deserves to be shared. The more I can sell stateside to people who know the difference, the more I can buy from those whose worthy hands to continue the fight for openness and equality, a fight that I've taken to the world wide web.

Your support ensures that films for women will make a difference.

Europe, the summer of 2011. Twelve countries. 46 days. One car. One tent. One man. One woman he's just met.

Though as an artist I had been working on body acceptance since the start of my career, and as a one-time practicing figure model was used to being nude in a social setting, I had been left largely unexposed to the community of naturists and nudists working towards the same goal of promoting the human being. Visiting nude beaches and resorts along the East Coast and participating in events organized around New York by Young Naturists America, I was left hungry for more and had come to Europe to see things from their side of the pond. Margo was my introduction.

I was American. Freshly arrived in Europe and the new owner of a '97 Ford Escort made in Germany. The only thing I had to complain about was the fact that the owner's manual was in German. She was from Poland, and a German-language owner's manual for a car bought in Poland wasn't the only thing she had to complain about. Something as small as that didn't even register.

Despite the cops in Vienna. Despite the rain in Veržej. Despite getting lost in Italy. Despite parting at Soest. Despite that night in Amsterdam. Despite our fight in Lisieux. Despite the storm in the Bois de la Roche. Despite that terrible morning outside Collonges. Despite the long road to Pielenhofen, we came back safe and sound and most importantly we were happy. We had started to learn how to listen. We had left the devils of the road behind and the devils ahead seemed just a little bit smaller. We had started to open up.

a collection of modern art prints and posters

During our trip across Europe, Margo very bravely opened up to me and to the camera. It was a difficult thing to do considering the scars that she carries. I wanted to share with the world her often joyful, often sad, often angry but always liberating experience except that the Internet is full of pictures of naked women and men and full of trolls who abuse them.

I realized that what I really need to point out is not the openness that Margo and I cultivated between ourselves, but the darkness that continues to surround us. When I censor nudity, I do so in a way that does not compromise the integrity of the human body. In censoring the photographs that Margo and I took during our trip, I was quick to notice that in those pictures where Margo was at her most open, at her most unguarded and most relaxed, in a word, when she was herself and basking in the sun I was forced to blacken her completely.

Why does our society drive people into darkness? Why can we not accept ourselves as we are? Why can we not accept our bodies? Have we truly become eunuchs? Or are we capable of defying the sickness that pits us against each other? Together we could conquer the devils that abuse us.

Whether you enjoy being nude or not, whether you've been photographed nude or not, but especially if, for you, like for Margo, it's something you never thought you would do, consider submitting your own photograph to be published in a censored manner as a form of protest against the ubiquitous presence of the human body on the internet, naked or not, that is published and duplicated ad infinitum without context and without regard for the identity or the needs of the individual being depicted.

Michal's Dictionary:
Hope Bible

Love and hope. I say the words and I still wonder what it means.

I think of all the images, the poems, the quotes, the songs, the stories. The symbols.

I think of my own work, the Fiction Corpus, which I tested and analyzed because I too wanted to know what it was about. Sure enough, the words love and hope were two of the most frequent words I had used.

Clearly love and hope are a potent fuel. They've driven many a work of art. The've helped create many beautiful things. Maybe that's it.

Use of Hope in The Gospel of Jesus H.

A picture of the planet Mars

An experimental science fiction Christology that makes Jesus the hard boiled narrator of his own early years on a bizarro earth made dark by volcanic ash and informally ruled by a man from Mars who sells bottled air.

What a shock it was! Alive and well one minute and dead the next: Jesus had no reason to consider his mother healthy, but nobody had told him her condition was life-threatening - on the contrary, her brief but recurring bouts of healthiness were arguments against it. Jesus had hope! Despite her chronic fatigue, Jesus had hope! Despite the air pollution being so bad, Jesus had hope! Despite the excessively ridiculous costs of respiratory therapy, Jesus had hope! Despite the fact that if he kept the window open, his mother would cough, and if he closed it, she would cough even more, Jesus had hope! And when she died all of a sudden, Jesus still had hope: he didn't lose it: he just realized, in order to make it work, in order to make it through life without losing one's mind, one must always be prepared for the worst: one must never be surprised. In fact, one must always make ready for sorrow and tragedy. Failure is opportunity misspelled.

Verse 50 from the chapter called Adolescence

Jesus hoped that Stalin's position in the army and, more importantly, his famous association with the Confederation would convince the board of directors to let him do whatever he wanted. After all, the future of the ruling party was at stake. If knowledge of this bribery and arms smuggling were - God forbid - ever to become public, the party would die. Their hopes of slowly rebuilding trust with this new Prime Minister's 'government of experts' by the time the next parliamentary elections took place would be quashed.

Verse 132 from the chapter called Security

Silence prevailed.

"Let's hope they don't bomb the church."

Verses 440-441 from the chapter called Arms

Zoe never mentioned the encroaching darkness. She remained curious about her surroundings and her reticence in that particular matter concerning where she would sleep that night gave Jesus a muted sense of hope, excitement, anxiety, and worry. By the time they reached Hell's Ditch, it was dark enough to make the four-meter-high walls on either side look sufficiently spooky. Zoe's insistence on climbing up the sides and looking over the edge only to fall back into Jesus's arms was further proof. In fact, it was all the proof that Jesus needed. There was no question: they were approaching the critical point - the point of no return. From here on out, it was not a matter of whether, but how well.

Verse 599 from the chapter called Security

That night, Jesus stood waiting in the darkness outside the club where Columbus was spinning. The cold air blew dusty American soil into his face. He was restless, but patient. Parties like these could last forever: till five or six in the morning, at least - Jesus only hoped his prey would emerge before dawn: that would make his job a whole lot easier. In the pre-dawn hours, Jesus waited. Then, in the coldest hour of night, just before dawn, Jesus saw the Krupnik; he was wearing his natural fibers and cemented bifocals. He was alone! Thank God - Jesus said to himself - he was alone.

Verse 610 from the chapter called Adolescence

Use of Hope in Sex for Children

A drawing of a man between a woman's legs in front of another man in a hospital bed

A literature book narrated by a pair of siblings on either side of the Atlantic whose profoundly weird sexual experiences pose a serious challenge to their traditional understanding of mathematicians, marriage, gay young men and God.

I returned to the party and everything seemed all right; no one said anything. I stole a glance at Macy but he was listening to Nike, who was still babbling on about something. There were conversations here and there, nothing out of the ordinary. The only noticeable difference I felt was my extreme fatigue, so I sat down, as far away from Macy as possible. Disregarding the party, I sat absorbed in my own thoughts, rerunning the scene in my head, imagining what Macy could possibly have murmured. What could he have said in this company, among these people oblivious to our strange and secret love? What would he probably mention, without waiting for a private moment? What would he dare whisper? These were unanswerable questions for the time being, and I had little hope of having the courage to ask them.

– Title 1, Regarding Peaches and Bananas, Part 2, Section 9, Attacking homosexuality, Paragraph 3

But, preparing too much, I hoped in vain: the fruits of previous efforts were rotting, but, by the power of love's plain feeling, my efforts were miraculously buoyed: my fingering was insane! my accents lingering, my tempo almost perfect. And, leaving my fingers to do their work, my mind was free to wander, my eyes were free to wonder, and my loins were free to want her: and, looking over my sheets, I saw her back in the kitchen. I saw her front in the kitchen - I saw her legs and her sides and her invisible wings in the kitchen.

– Title 3, Regarding a Dream, Chapter 3, The Third Day, Part 2, Prayer & The Reformation, Section 11, Judging Love Based on Results, Paragraph 5

BARB: Thank you.

NIKE: Welcome to the backseat of my car. I hope you find it comfortable. So: where are we going?

BARB: I need to stay...

NIKE: ...

BARB: In the Bois.

Bo closed her eyes. Those men were gone. The joy, the anguish, the hope and the sorrow they inspired had followed her through the cold dimensions of space. She had once thought she had no choice but to cling to them. Now she could sense them fading away.

Kwon arrived with happy news. Do was delivered of a baby boy. "Congratulations," said Bo. She smiled. There were now twelve again.

Use of Hope in Miscellaneous Dingbats

The title of the book at the end of a string of miscellaneous dingbats

A story book full of short fiction stories. An interesting bedtime mystery. A fairy tale. Science fiction romance. Adult life. Uninspiring gay fiction. Horror.

As Mark made his way down to his final stop he noticed the professor standing behind the tripod leaning into the viewfinder. He was so preoccupied with the sight of the bent-over old man he neglected to slow down and crane his head around the hedgerow. Luckily there was nobody there. The cord that connected Bill's hand brake to the actual brake had snapped. He had been dragging it for about the entire route until a customer on Download Street finally stopped him and asked, "What's that noise?" Bill decided it was time to take a break and check it out. He didn't want customers thinking postmen didn't care about their trucks. The customer saw the broken cord. He offered to bring some twine so Bill could tie the loose end to the chassis. Bill said he didn't want to be a bother. The customer insisted. Bill was forced to wait ten minutes until the customer came back and said, "Sorry it took so long. Here's the twine." Bill tied the cord to the chassis and went on his way. Never realizing the broken hand brake had probably saved his life.

– from “Wrong Again,” a success story that describes life on this planet, though hopefully we can change

The general continued. "Reports of our agents in the Perseus arm confirm the possibility that forces of Scutum-Centaurus are assembling within the shadow of the galactic core. Their presumed intention is to make further raids into the open clusters that border the near end of the bar. Rumors of a so-called hypersphere capable of transporting infinite mass via the brane strings are just that. Rumors. The Orion Star Alliance has concluded that Scutum is not planning further incursions into our territory. Nevertheless the military is on high alert. Dark matter mining will continue to increase. All projects confirmed within the last two galactic arc-seconds will be subject to review and possible suspension. That is all."

– from “Titan's Reign,” a science fiction story that absorbs all hope even when it's traveling at light speed

The bank on the corner of Lima and Rebelo streets was a big bank. It had a glass tower reaching up into the heavens like every other building in the area. It was an old bank. Its first two floors were refreshingly free of the massive luxury watch billboards and perfume ads that littered the eye in every direction. The walls were made of stone. Walking further I realized it was just a facade. But the wall that ran perpendicular to Lima and Rebelo streets had a gallery on the second floor. It was the one old thing of substance I could see. The one part of the old building you could actually stand on. For a second I imagined myself in 19th century China as if I were a young Rebelo in love with a young Lima whose father owned the bank and whom I was dangerously wooing from the street with a bouquet of flowers. The world was beautiful and full of hope. Until the garbage truck honked for me to get out of the way.

– from “Beautiful Branca,” a true story that includes fiction as far as I can tell

Pfizer wandered around the ground floor for a while. Aimless and distracted. He thought about hopping into a suit and swimming through the sky. In a few years it wouldn't be possible. The atmosphere was getting less dense. Pfizer hit himself in the head. Trivialities. It was the phosphane lions he had to worry about. Their habitat was disappearing. If he couldn't prove their indigenous nature they would never survive. Only his samples would remain. As long as some unscrupulous administrator didn't toss them out. Along with Pfizer's career.

– from “Titan's Reign,” a science fiction story in which all hope is absorbed even when it's traveling at light speed

On the fourth day I read aloud again from Dostoyevsky's The Idiot. I was practicing my diction. After I got tired of reading I started thinking aloud. I was discussing with myself the imagery in the story. Relating it to my own situation. After amusing myself in this way I decided I was being silly. I sat in silence again. I thought about Barack and his twitching and the general ignorance of people.

– from “A Black Man in Moscow,” an inspirational story that describes the mess we're in as people, though hopefully you're one of those helping to clean it up

Natural + Life

Large Wall Art Depicting the Human Landscape

Life is a spinning sphere with Joy at one pole and Sadness at the other. Each continuously feeding its pair. Joy flanked by the emotions of Trust on one side, Surprise on the other. Trust leading to Anticipation; anticipation leading to Fear. Surprise leading to Disgust; disgust leading to Anger. Anger and Fear fueling our Sadness. Sadness giving way, in time, to Joy; through Hope, an orientation towards Love. Love, an openness towards Joy, Trust and Surprise; the sum of emotion; emotion amplified by others. Multiplied and divided, in equal parts. Such that to those from whom it has been subtracted, we must add. Until we are whole.
